EV Charger Installation Options

Our electricians have extensive experience installing a wide range of EV charging stations, including:
  • Levels 1, 2, 3
  • Level 1 – 7-9 km/per charging hour
  • Level 2 – 30-45 km/per charging hour
  • Level 3 (commercial use) – charges from 0 to 80% in 30 minutes

Most of our customers require the level 2 charger. This charger can be installed in your garage or wherever you park your car. It typically takes about 4 hours to install an EV charger. We can supply and install your charger without the need for additional equipment. However, installation requires a dedicated line to the panel whether we install it in your garage or outside. All work is performed to adhere to the ESA guidelines.

What Are the Different Types of EV Fast-Charging Models?

Trickle Charge or Level 1 EV Charging Station

This is the most straightforward charging station of the three types. The cable that comes with your EV is essentially a Level 1 charger. These chargers work using standard household current (110-120 volts AC), and can easily plug into a grounded wall socket through a three-prong plug.

This kind of charge is user-friendly and convenient but it’s quite slow. For instance, if you have 320 km (200 miles) of range, it can take about 50 hours to get a full recharge. That is roughly 7-9 km (5 miles) per charging hour. However, this type of charging is good for hybrid vehicles, which can typically recharge fully overnight.

AC Charge or Level 2 EV Charging Station

Level 2 chargers generally use a 240-volt/30 Amps circuit. There are also portable Level 2 charging stations available. They still require a 240-volt plug to work.

To set up a Level 2 charger, the outlet is typically hardwired into your home’s electrical circuit. Alternatively, we can install a Level 2 charging cable in the driveway and plug it into a socket using a portable Level 2 charger.

The main advantage of having a Level 2 charger installed is that it provides stronger charging power. This makes charging your EV much faster. Unlike Level 1 chargers, a Level 2 charger can recharge your EV battery in about 3-8 hours. For a hybrid vehicle, a Level 2 charger can recharge the battery in just a couple of hours.

DC Charge or Level 3 EV Charging Station

Level 3 EV charging stations are primarily for commercial use. They offer lightning-fast charging times, allowing your vehicle to go from 0%t o 80% in just 30 minutes. While it’s incredibly efficient, a Level 3 charging station can be expensive. Plus, it’s not typically permitted to install Level 3 chargers in residential areas due to the power draw required.

Level 3 charging stations are not very practical for home installations due to zoning restrictions and cost.

What Are EV Charging Requirements?

EV batteries store all the electricity your car needs to operate. You just have to charge your EV battery to keep your car running smoothly. To do this, you can have an EV charging station installed in your home. The charging station you require will depend on the type of EV and its specifications.
